Vintage Louis Vuitton Vernis Bedford

For the past year or so I’ve toyed with the idea of reviewing for you our Louis Vuitton collection of various handbags, scarves, purses, wallets, and other items. I first discovered Louis Vuitton when I was lucky enough to be given one as a gift for my 21st birthday. From then on I’ve lusted after these fabulous designer bags. The quality and attention to detail means they last a lifetime, and LV will repair any item which has become damaged (some repairs are free, one of my husbands wallets was recently sent back to Paris for repair after several years of hard use, without charge!). So without further ado lets kick things off with my oldest Louis Vuitton…..

Louis Vuitton Vernis Bedford
(Part of the Papillon family of totes)

Sadly Louis Vuitton no longer make the Vernis Bedford, and mine is over 10 years old now! If you like this style you can still buy the Papillon in Monogram Canvas or Damier Ebene Canvas .
I have the Vernis Bedford in ‘Beige’ which is a beautiful shimmering beige/nude colour. The Vernis leather has a patent finish to it with the LV monogram embossed into it. Vernis leather is very hard wearing and can withstand a lot of use before it shows signs of ageing. The leather trimmings are vachetta cowhide which does darken over time. I’ve noticed this on the handles, however this will happen as the cowhide is untreated (it simply adds to the charm of the bag). This is all complimented with gold coloured hardware, including the zipper, handle rings and key loop inside the bag. You’ll find the bags product number stamped here. The bag can store a generous amount of ‘stuff’ and there is even a pocket at one end on the outside too. This particular bag is made to be carried on the shoulder, but I find it more comfortable to carry it by hand or in the crook of my arm. I should also mention that each bag comes with it’s own dust bag, to ensure it’s kept clean when it’s not being used (I store mine in their dust bags, within their original boxes).

I love my Bedford although these days it tends to come out for formal events such as Black Tie Dinners and Weddings. Its classic styling and colour always looks fabulous with whatever I choose to wear.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the first of my Louis Vuitton items and I’ll bring you details of another one soon xx
