Magnetix

By China Glaze
'Magnetix'

Magnetic nail polishes have been around for a little while now. These ones by 'China Glaze' are the newest to hit the market.
I think these are a great little set, with 6 colours to choose from and 3 magnet designs, the possibilities are endless!

I found the nail polish brush to be the perfect size for my nails; they are thinner and therefore easier to get one even coat of  colour on (as recommended).
Here's the how-to;
  1. Choose desired magnet design,
  2. Apply base coat on to all 10 nails,
  3. Apply one coat of China Glaze Magnetic polish,
  4. Immediately hold magnet over the damp nail. Hold close, without touching for 10 seconds.
  5. Repeat until all 10 nails are designed,
  6. Once nails are dry apply top coat.
**For best results polish and design one nail at a time**
I've had great fun so far using these polishes, and I love how the pigment picks up the light. You could use the same colour time and again, and never get the same look! Putting it simply I think these are the bee's knee's!!

So I end this by asking - Have you tried Magnetic nail polishes? And if yes, which brand do you like??

Be back soon xx

New shoes....

......Oh yes!!!

I may have come back from the UK with enough shoes to last me a week, however these are the ones I wanted to show you today!

These we're purchased in Debenhams and are from the Red Herring footwear range.

They're a very luxurious satin pump, with ruching at the toe. The colour is this fabulous coral I have seen so much of over recent months. And I have to say they are very comfortable (trust me I have fussy feet when it comes to shoes!!).

RRP £14

Thanks for reading and I'll be back soon

Too Faced - Update Part 3

Hello again, and welcome to the third and final part of the
Too Faced 'Matte Collection' update.

Today's look is called 'Fashion'.
This is a lovely set of colours. I've always been big on plum shades, not sure why, I just seem to have alot of them in my makeup bag!

I found the Fashion look to be more subtle then the other two, perhaps because the base colour is closer to a natural eyelid shade. The result being that with this look I used alot more of the darker shade (step 3) then I did for the others.

The verdict -
I'm super chuffed to have this eye shadow palette by Too Faced. The colours are easy to use and blend into each other very well (with either an eye shadow brush, sponge applicator, or your finger). Being a busy Mum I found the three 'how-to' cards well worth having, the only problem was choosing which look to go for!!

If you have tried any of the Too Faced eyeshadow palettes get in touch and let me know what you think of them.....good or bad ;-) xx

Ellen Rose Jewellery

I've been so super excited by the opportunity to tell you all about the newest (and cutest) jewellery company based in Ipswich, Suffolk.

'Ellen Rose Jewellery'

While I was in the UK this month, I had the chance to meet up with Co-Founders Abby & Megan for a cuppa and chat. I wanted to find out more about their company and the jewellery they designed.

Tweet Tweet Bracelet

Abby and Megan met nearly two years ago, and discovered that they had both had a passion for Benefit Makeup and vintage style jewellery. After mulling it over for a while they decided to take the leap and start the business, so in March 2012 Ellen Rose Jewellery was born.

Tell me your secret (Aqua)

They can also work with you to produce bespoke items should you wish to commission a piece for that someone special. Too Faced - Update Part 2

Welcome to the second part of my Too Faced 'Matte Collection' Update.

Todays how to is the 'Classic' look.

This is a beautiful combination of a cream, grey, and navy blue matte eye shadows.

I particularly like the navy blue which is called London FogI used this under and above the lashes to give a smoky hue to my eyes. Then to finish the look off I applied my blue mascara.

I have never used matte eye shadow before and admit the more I am using this collection by Too Faced the more I like them.

Be back soon with the final look from this palette.

Too Faced - Update Part 1

I'm back with the first update for you on this wonderful new eye shadow palette by Too Faced, called 'Matte Collection'.

This collection comes with 9 colours and 3 'how-to' cards covering 'Day', 'Classic', and 'Fashion' looks. These cards show you which colours to use and how to get the looks in three easy steps.

'Day' look card

The following is the 'Day' look
This is what I would call a natural smoky brown eye. Its a really good look for the day time, but can also be adapted for the evening if you add more of the darker 'coffee bean' colour on the outer corners of the eye.

I haven't gone too OTT as I'm not big on heavy eye colour during the day. As a  'Day' look this is perfect and really makes my blue/green eyes stand out.

So this is the first of three Too Faced reviews I'll be bringing you.
Watch this space for the next 'look'

The Dutch Braid

These are becoming very popular.
I have seen them on several websites and in magazines. So I have done a simple 'How-To' so you can learn to create this look.

For this look you need a knowledge of French-braiding. This is where you have 3 sections of hair that are braided together. Working down the head adding a little more hair to each section as you go. For those of you unfamiliar with 'Ducth Braids' you are essentially braiding the hair under its self (I've heard  people refer to this as braiding 'back to front'). Each time to add a new section of hair you take it 'under' rather than 'over'. If that makes sense?

My models hair was shoulder length. I started the Dutch Braid on the right of her head and took my sections on the diagonal. Ending it on the bottom left. Once I had finished working along the scalp, I braided to the end of her hair and secured in a clear band.
If you wish, you can wrap the end of the braid on its self creating a twist which you can pin into the nape. Thus keeping all of her hair up and out of the way.

I shall put together a photo 'step-by-step' at a later date for those of you who haven't done these braids before so you can see exactly how its done :-)

Thanks for reading

Cream Jeans?.....Why not!

If you're after a pair of cream skinny jeans this season this pair are highly recommended.

From Primark, these are a fabulous stretch skinny jean.
At the moment they are only available in  regular length (32cm inside leg), but look good turned up if they are too long. I found these to be a good fit around my legs, not too tight and extremely comfortable. Plus they're a steal at just £9......!

These are probably not the right colour to be buying as a Mummy....but if they get ruined then its not the end of the world given their low price. I really feel you can't go wrong with these Primark jeans.

Like all Primark clothes you will won't find them online so check out your local store.

I hope you like these as much as I do :-) xx

Rainbow French Manicure

Your going to love this fabulous twist on the classic French Manicure!
I spotted this look in the May edition of a trade magazine I buy. Its a very simple look to do at home. All you need is a natural peach colour polish for the base and 5 different rainbow colour polishes.

I used my OPI New York City Ballet 'You Callin' me a Lyre' as the base. Then a selection of the Essence Polishes for the 'french' tip part.

I applied two coats of my base colour polish over OPI 'Start to Finish' (which protects the nail). Once you've applied your base colour and it's dry, select the first of your rainbow colours and carefully paint on the french tip. You need a steady hand and please take your time. If you make a mistake you'll have to take everything off and start again :-(

After finishing all of your nails allow to dry slightly before applying your top coat. Try to avoid dragging the brush over your fresh polish as it could smudge.
Finish off with a generous spray of Rapid Dry to set your nail polish, and then a drop of Cuticle Oil.

And there you have it - The Rainbow French Polish

Eye Curl II

I discovered the Eyecurl in the late 90's while at Salon International in London, and haven't been without one since! The current model, Eyecurl II, is a 'must have' for anyone who wants perfectly curled lashes.

This is easy to use and won't damage or pull your eye lashes in the process.
These involve NO CLAMPING!!

* Simply switch on the Eyecurl
* Apply one coat of mascara
* Leave to dry
* Place the Eyecurl under your top lashes, near the base

* Hold there for a few seconds, for a curl that lasts all day.

For a more dramatic look apply a second coat of mascara after curling.

The Eyecurl takes 1 AA battery, has heat indication from Red to White so you know when its ready to use, and also has a cleaning brush to prevent product build-up on the curler.

RRP £14.99

Mrs M's No Fat Banana Bread

This recipe was given to me by one of my customers. I sampled some of Mrs M's Banana bread during a visit to England, and even though it contains no fat, it tastes fantastic....!

All you need is;
  • 5 Ripe Bananas (mashed)
  • 2 Beaten Eggs
  • 150g Brown Sugar
  • 100g Sultanas
  • 200g Self-raising Flour (sieved)
  • A 2lb loaf tin (or similar)

Pre-heat your oven to 180oC (Fan Assisted). Simply mix together the bananas, eggs, brown sugar and sultanas. Once this is well blended, sieve in the flour and fold. When all the ingredients are mixed, spoon into a 2lb loaf tin and pop into your oven for 75 minutes. Take it out of the oven when golden and remove the loaf from the tin. Place on a rack to cool.

I think this is best served warm with a toffee sauce.....Yum!

This is a fail-proof recipe and if I can make it anyone can :-)

Summer Favourite

How many of you have a favourite nail polish you wear every Summer? I do and I recently discovered that it had been 'retired'.......boo!

However the good news is I have a replacement :-)

In the picture above you can see two nail polishes. They look pretty similar, however the names are some what different.

Left is my old faithful Summer colour - OPI Most Honorable Red (NL J12). This was part of the Japanese Collection some years back, and is now what OPI call 'Retired'.

On the right is the replacement colour I found while trawling through my OPI colour menu. This is called 'My Chihuahua Bites!' (NL M21) and is part of the Classic Collection. I have to admit I ordered this one purely because I liked the name (we are Chihuahua owners), but I was thrilled to find this is a near enough perfect match for my original OPI colour.

This got me thinking.......How many of you were in a similar situation where a colour you loved had been 'Retired'? Did you find a new shade or move onto a different colour all together? I'd love to know.

In the mean time have fun polishing

Tommee Tippee bib

These are a must buy for anyone who is going through the weaning phase.

I have tried many bibs for Little Miss and found them either too big, too rigid, or just not stain resistant (so they just look a mess). During my last visit to the UK I stumbled across this one by Tommee Tippee
This bib is made from a soft rubber type material, which makes it easy to bend and fold, and therefore less likely to get stick under the tray of your high-chair. It can be folded in half for easy packing when your out for dinner, looks very comfortable to wear, and (so far) seems to be stain resistant to Little Miss's food!

Roll N Go Bib
RRP £3.45

Available in 4 colours and 3 neck sizes.

The 'must have' hair tool!

So as I said on the blog insert this is my review of the Babyliss Root Boost

My hairdresser Mel had told me so much about hers that I figured it was time to invest in one myself. After all, my hair has become fine since having our daughter and doesn't appear to be thickening up.....what better excuse for a new hair tool :-)

So what is a "Babyliss Root Boost" ?
Well in essence it is a micro hair crimper. It works by crimping the area of hair near your root - hence giving you lift and volume. The Root Boost has 3 heat settings going upto 200°C which means the results are long lasting without the aid of hair-sprays. Plus, like most hair tools are now, it has ceramic plates that heat up very quickly.

Check out the video below to see how they work......

I love my Root Boost and feel it was well worth buying. I would strongly recommend this for anyone with fine to normal thickness hair who wants a bit of a boost. I'm not sure how good these would be on thicker hair, but I'll try to find a Guinea Pig to try them out on :-)

**TOP TIP**
Be careful not to crimp the hair by your hairline, as you will see this when you have finished.

RRP upto £35.99

Here's to full hair every day xx
